Boy hockey teams win state titles

PROVO -- Two Davis County Youth Hockey Association teams have won state championships.
DCYHA Pee Wee Red and DCYHA Squirt Red claimed titles at the Utah In-State House League's "Frozen Four" championships at the Peaks Arena on March 27.
The top-seeded Pee Wee squad defeated Greater Salt Lake 6-2 in the championship game after topping TAHA 5-3 in the semifinals.
DCYHA finished first despite having only one second-year Pee Wee on the team. Ken Kitchen and Bob Shegrud coached the team comprised of players from Centerville, Kaysville and Bountiful.
They include Kyle Bennett, Doug Bergquist, Jordan Colohan, Austin Facer, Glen Fernelius, Riley Hazeldine, Brock Jensen, Sam Kitchen, Kyle Mitchell, Isaac Pitt, Brock Robison, Kyle Shegrud, Colton Smith and Tyler Wolfley.
The Squirts, meanwhile, edged DCYHA Blue 4-3 before knocking off Cache Valley 4-2 in the finals.
Tim Bergquist, Brian Acord, Chuck McPhee and Doug Wortham served as coaches for players Bremen Acord, Kevin Andelin, Alex Andruzzi, Andrew Bergquist, Joe Blakemore, Jake Checketts, Drew Folgmann, Nate Henderson, Zach Hess, Mike Jacobsen, Bronson Kunzler, Wilson Lamb, Daniel McPhee, Sean Mikesell,P.J. Tanner and Nash Worden. Other Squirts include Tyler Aspittle, Jonathan Downing, Tyson Kasteler, Dawson Kuck, Ryan Lemon, Russell Murray and Isaac Richardson.
Four other DCYHA teams also participated in the final four, but were eliminated in the semifinals. They include Bantam Red, Pee Wee Blue, Squirt Blue and the Mites.
TAHA, the organization representing Utah County, took top honors in the Bantam and Mite divisions.
