BOUNTIFUL -- The Bountiful Lady Braves got their offense going on Tuesday evening as they routed the Highland Lady Rams 64-41 in both schools' second Region 5 game of the season in Bountiful. The Lady Braves' offense was clicking simply because their defense was phenomenal. Highland totaled 10 assists as a team while they were forced into 32 turnovers, which led to numerous fast-break lay ups for Bountiful.

Scoring for the Lady Braves was very even. Not only did they score more than 13 in all four quarters, but they never scored more than 18 in any of those quarters also.

The individual scoring breakdown for Bountiful read very similarly. Three players, Erin Wall, Holly McOmie and Rebecca Schmidt scored in double figures for the game. Besides the contributions from those three, four others chipped in at least four points apiece in the blowout victory.

Schmidt led Bountiful with 14 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. She did commit six turnovers, but her overall hustle and play were what sparked the Lady Braves.

Wall had an overall good game with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. McOmie tallied 11 points, two assists and three steals, all off the bench in just 22 minutes of play.

Makensie Pratt is who kept the Lady Rams remotely close in this one. Highland's center led all scorers for the game with 19 points while throwing in 11 rebounds also. Along with her scoring and rebounding, Pratt totaled three blocks and three steals.

The game was mired in turnovers. Both teams combined for 27 assists while turning the ball over a grand total of 52 times. The officiating crew made numerous traveling calls during the game, which added to the mounting turnover totals.

Highland had a tough time scoring in the first half and what made it even more frustrating was the fact that they converted only two of eight foul shot attempts in the first half. Their free-throw shooting was much improved in the second half as they made six of eight charity stripe attempts.

Bountiful, all in all, shot the ball well from the field. The Lady Braves knocked down 46 percent of their field goals in the first half and then improved upon that in the second half by making exactly half, 11 of 22. For the game, Bountiful shot 48 percent compared to High-land's 40 percent.

The Lady Braves did have some trouble from the free throw line as a team in this one. If it was a closer game, that very well could have come back to bite them. Bountiful made 17 of their 27 free throws attempted, which gave some glimmers of hope to the Lady Rams.

Of the 32 team turnovers, Highland forward Sophie Kae-lissa committed 11 of them herself. The loss dropped the Lady Rams to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Bountiful improved their overall record to 5-4 and evened their early Region 5 record to 1-1. Olympus looms for the Lady Braves tomorrow on the road. A win there would definitely help them in their quest of the Region 5 crown.
