FARMINGTON -- "New ground is being paved," no pun intended, with state approval for Davis County to oversee an Antelope Island road project. County Public Works Di-rector Tom Smith told county commissioners Tuesday the Utah Department of Trans-portation (UDOT) "has agreed to let me manage the contract" for repair of the primary access road to Antelope Island. Under a cooperative agreement with UDOT, the county will administer, handle advertising for bids and inspections, for the project, including $450,000 in two contracts.
"This saved a ton of money," he said, of allowing the county to have direct involvement. Design work is complete and bids should be opened at the Oct. 4 commission meeting, with work to be completed by year's end, Smith added.
