Focus group for parents of disabled students organized

DAVIS COUNTY — Parents of students with disabilities are being sought to participate in a focus group as part of the Utah Program Improvement Process conducted by the Utah State Office of Educational Special Education Services (USOE-SES) with Davis School District.

The process is designed to focus resources on improving results for students with disabilities through enhanced partnerships between school and district programs, parents, advocates and state organizations.

The focus group meeting, sponsored by the Utah Parent Center, will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 at the Vista Center, 97 S. 200 E., in Farmington. Participating parents must have a student with a disability who has an Individual Education Plan and receives special education services.

Music grants provided to schools

BOUNTIFUL — Millcreek Junior High was one of four Utah schools to receive a grant from Legacy Music Alliance, a new Utah non-profit committed to strengthening music programs and assisting aspiring artists through a variety of educational and monetary resources.

Keith Sorenson, director of the alliance’s K-12 Music Opportunity Network, or moNET, said additional grants are in the works for other schools and music programs. “Music is a critical part of what makes humans unique, it’s life-affirming and reflective of a society’s core values,” said Sorenson.
