For the Braves fielding errors did them in. The first four Tooele runs were all created by Bountiful mistakes.
The Buffaloes first got on the board with an RBI triple by Cole Evans in the second inning, scoring Robert Sandstrom from first on the play after Sandstrom had reached the base on an error. Evans was then driven in on the next play on a sacrifice fly by Drew McIntyre to give the Buffs an early 2-0 lead. Tooele got two more runs in the top of the third, giving them a 4-0 lead, thanks in large part to more fielding errors by the Braves.
Offensively, Bountiful tried to counter, but they struggled against the pitching of Ryan Hardman. The Braves finally did get on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth, with RBI singles by Brian Thompson and Jason Freckleton, but the Buffaloes countered with three runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 7-2.
The Braves managed one more run in the bottom of the seventh off a single by Aaron Dell scoring Eric Hunter, but Hardman retired the final Braves batters and the game ended with a 7-3 score.
Hardman pitched all seven innings for Tooele, giving up three runs on eight hits and striking out 11.
Evans helped lead the way offensively with two extra-base hits and three RBIs; Sandstrom also had three RBIs for the Buffaloes.
For the Braves, Chase Christensen pitched four strong innings, striking out four and allowing four runs, although three were unearned. Cass Christensen took over in the fifth and Thompson completed the seventh.
It was the third straight disappointing loss for the Braves, after starting the season with two wins and a tie. Their next game is at Granger on Thursday.
