BOUNTIFUL -- Davis County was well represented at the League of Utah Writers Roundup conference on Sept. 16-17 at the Airport Hilton Hotel in Salt Lake City which featured keynote speaker Carol Higgins Clark. The highest honor of the League went to Bountiful resident Adam C. Olson as Writer of the Year. Olson was honored for his support of the League as Bountiful Chapter President and Speaker's Bureau Chairman as well as his ongoing efforts to help writers learn and improve their writing craft. Directly responsible for launching the careers of several writers, both from the Bountiful Chapter and from his creative writing classes at Bountiful High, Olson has also been published in many magazines and is currently the editor of church news for the Ensign and Liahona magazines. He also won four awards in this year's prose contest.

Olson has turned the reins of the Bountiful Chapter over to incoming president, Joyce Goodrich of Farmington. Goodrich's first meeting will be Oct. 18 at the Bounti-ful/Davis Art Center in Bountiful at 7 p.m. where contest winners will be honored and the agenda for the year will be announced.

Bruce Allen of Wasatch Writers served as Contest Chairman for this year's Roundup. He found judges for the contest and coordinated the details for the more than 660 entries. With the help of his chapter, including past president Walt Eddy and new chapter president Paul Burn-ham, the awards ceremony ran extremely well.

The two Davis County chapters boasted multiple winners in both the poetry and prose portions of the writing contest. First place winners read excerpts of their entries.

Another Bountiful Chap-ter member, Janine Creager, created the Roundup syllabus, and serves as the editor of the League's newsletter, The Lariat. She has also served as Bountiful Chapter's president.

Taking over as president of the state League of Utah Writers organization is DeLoa Sharp, who formerly served as its secretary before becoming president-elect. Sharp, along with president-elect, Meredith "Andy" Anderson will be planning next year's Round-up, to be held in Utah County.

Sharp was also honored with the Publication Award for Journalism as part of Roundup. She was presented with a certificate for a gold quill for this award.

Her articles appear in the Utah Spirit Magazine, Broker Agent Magazine, Davis County Clipper, and in magazines by Elite Publishing based in St. George.
