During Tuesday's Bountiful City Council meeting, an update regarding the City's future recycling plan was given.
Tom Hardy, Bountiful city manager stated that the City is in the process of exploring recycling options, but not actively.
According to Hardy, the city is sending out a request for proposals (RFP)--a way to find out who can offer what in regards to recycling options.
While the City plans to review proposals, however, Hardy noted that this is a long process, and that the City is "not actively pursuing" a recycling plan at this time.
Hardy says that the soonest date that the City could realistically begin implementing an additional recycling plan (additional to the current recycling bins offered) would be July 2008.
"At this point, we need to wait until we have all the facts," Hardy said. "It's going to take some time."
The recycling debate began after a group of residents decided that they wanted more recycling options, and approached the council.
Earlier this month, the council heard from a variety of neighbors and Woods Cross City Council member Jennifer Decker regarding different recycling options. During this meeting, the Bountiful council agreed to look into the issue further, but noted that residents do have the option of placing their recyclable goods into local bins.
