The project's Utah House incorporates state-of-the-art energy efficiency practices and demonstrates water conserving landscaping through native plants and water harvesting techniques. Fruit and vegetable research account for 180 acres of the center and enhanced wetlands capture storm water and support urban wildlife.
West Point City's Trails System Master Plan was prepared by a citizen's committee. It enhances and creates walking routes in the community, linking parks, trails and neighboring jurisdictions. The plan also includes 3.5 miles of the Historic Emigrant Trail, to be built soon with locally raised funds.
The Grand Award was given to Harvest Park Development in Mapleton. Three awards of excellence and four awards of merit were also given to projects throughout Utah.
For five years, the Quality Growth Awards have recognized outstanding developments and creative communities that help keep the state beautiful, prosperous and neighborly, according to Kevin Fayles, Envision Utah's community relations manager.
