FARMINGTON -- The man accused of killing a Bountiful woman in her apartment in January has yet to have his competency evaluation completed. A court appearance had been scheduled Monday for Philip Joseph Simmons, 36, of Bountiful, accused of killing Susanne Fry on January 19, but he has yet to go to the Utah State Hospital for that mental evaluation because of a backlog at the hospital, Davis County prosecutors say.The court is required by state statute to schedule a review hearing 45 days after ordering the evaluation, but Simmons hasn't even been to the hospital yet.
Simmons is accused of stabbing Fry, a hotel worker, during an argument over a meal.
A short time later, police found Simmons walking about a block away, dressed only in a T-shirt, pants and shoes. He allegedly told the officer that a lady had been murdered and that he had done something bad.
