CLEARFIELD -- Thanks to a United Way allocation $25,000 allocation, some $269,000 in federal funds to assist the homeless should be headed to the Family Connection Center's (FCC) transitional housing program. The combined funds will be used to train those in more than 50 homeless households over the next year. The ultimate goal is to advance participants to permanent housing supported by their own earned income, says Ken Adamson, FCC homeless coordinator. The program provides subsidized housing for one year while heads of households attend applied technology and life skills classes and establish a positive employment history. The goal is to increase their income potential and eventually move to their own, subsidy-free housing.
The program is entering its third year. Affordable housing and homelessness have been identified by United Way as key needs during a 2004 community needs survey. For more information, call 773-0712.
