BOUNTIFUL -- The Davis County Health Department is hosting a Cancer Screening Clinic for Women on March 2 at Lakeview Hospital, 630 E, Medical Drive, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Appointments can be made by calling 451-3315.
Each exam will include a breast exam, pap and pelvic exam and a free mammogram voucher for those who qualify. A registered nurse, trained and certified by the state will perform the exams.
Fees are based on a sliding scale. Mammograms are available at the time of the appointment.
Director of Davis County Health Lewis Garrett said that breast cancer will strike more than 200,000 women and occasionally men, claiming more than 40,000 lives in the United States alone. "One out of nine women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime."
He continued, "medical experts agree that regular mammograms, combined with clinical breast exams by a health-care provider and monthly breast self-examination are the best means to detect breast cancer early, when it is the most treatable."
