FARMINGTON -- An independent investigation by the Davis County Attorney's Office found no improprieties on the part of the Cache County Attorney's Office in the way it handled a witness. But the Davis County Attorney's Office will ask the U.S. Attorney's Office to investigate the FBI's involvement in the case.

A report released by Davis County Chief Deputy Attorney Bill McGuire, said he found no mistreatment by the Cache County Attorney's Office of a key witness in the trial of anesthesiologist Raymond Bedell.

Bedell was found guilty of a class A misdemeanor for sexual battery, but cleared of three felony charges. He is awaiting sentencing, but has asked that the case be dismissed.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation raised questions over Daines' treatment of the witness when agents interviewed her on a separate issues.

She allegedly told agents that Daines and a Logan City police detective embellished her testimony.

However, McGuire said he spoke with her following her FBI interview and believes the witness was fearful of giving information to the FBI, and may not have made things entirely clear to agents.

McGuire is attending a conference this week and was unavailable for comment, but Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings said his office will ask the U.S. Attorney's Office to look into the report and the FBI's involvement.
