Visitors may view progress of the roundup from the eastside road leading to the Fielding Garr Ranch. A complete and sweeping view of the action is available from a safe distance, with visitors encouraged to bring binoculars.
Helicopters will be used Saturday, Oct. 29, if necessary, to gather any stragglers and complete the roundup. The helicopter push can be viewed by the public from the eastside road and from Buffalo Point.
Then from Nov. 3-5, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., visitors may observe as the bison are weighed, blood-tested, inoculated and scanned.
Microchips have been implanted in all bison behind their ears. That serves as a permanent identification and store's the animal's health history. Food, drink and memorabilia, from T-shirts to sweatshirts, will be available throughout the bison roundup.
Meanwhile, the island's excess bison will be sold on Sat. Nov. 18, to keep the bison population within carrying capacity of the island's available forage.
The sale will take place at the park's bison corrals. That day, animals may be viewed beginning at 8 a.m. with the sale set for 10 a.m. For more information, call 773-2941.
