High Notes - Young poet gets published

BOUNTIFUL -- A seventh-grade South Davis Junior High student will have a poem published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans. Teague Jones, son of Jeff and Lezlee Jones was notified his poem, "I Am a Monkey," will be published in the anthology's 2006 edition.

His mother said that Teague has been writing poetry since he was about 5 years old and has written numerous poems through the years.

The anthology provides a forum through which selected young authors in grades K-12 from throughout the United States can see their work and the work of others published in a book.

Students honored on KSL

BOUNTIFUL -- Students at Tolman Elementary School were honored on KSL after raising money for the "Quarters for Christmas" program. Since November, students have brought in quarters and extra change to help families in need. Earlier this month, students reached their first goal of raising $200 and were rewarded with treats. After earning more than $400, students received an extra recess. On Dec. 18, their efforts were honored by KSL, as 12 student council members appeared on the Doug Wright Show.

The students are now working to bring in $750. If they reach this goal, they will get a "hat" day.



Sub-for-Santa

BOUNTIFUL -- Students at Meadowbrook Elementary School have worked together in the Sub-for-Santa program to provide Christmas for 13 families.

On Dec. 20, the entire school will gather for the annual winter sing-a-long. This will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the school gym.

Also at Meadowbrook Elementary School, the geography bee finals will be held Jan. 9 in the school's library.



Music Assembly at CJH

Centerville -- Centerville Junior High School students will gather for a musical assembly on Dec. 20. The assembly will include performances by the school's choir, band and orchestra. The assembly will begin at 9:40 a.m. in the school's auditorium

Also at Centerville Junior High, the girls basketball team will have its first game against North Davis Junior High. The game will be at North Davis Junior High on Jan. 3, at 3:15 p.m. The team's second game will be against Central Davis Junior High on Jan. 4. This game will be at Centerville Junior High at 3:15 p.m.



Holiday assembly

Bountiful -- Students at Millcreek Junior High School will gather for a holiday assembly on Dec. 20. The assembly will include the entire music department. It will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the school's gym.



Holiday events at So. Davis

Bountiful -- South Davis Junior High School students attended their holiday dance on Dec. 18. The cost was $2 per student and all proceeds went to Sub-for-Santa.

On Dec. 19, South Davis Junior High School choir students will perform a variety of holiday songs at Woods Cross High School. This will begin at 7 p.m.

Also at South Davis Junior High, the school will hold its holiday assembly on Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. The assembly will include numbers performed by the school's music department.



Geography bee

Bountiful -- Boulton Elementary School students will be participating in the school's upcoming geography bee, held Jan. 11 in the school's gym. On Jan. 31, Boulton Elementary School will hold its history fair. Both events will be held during regular school hours.



Holiday cheer at Bountiful

Bountiful-- Bountiful Elementary School will be filled with holiday cheer this week as many holiday-inspired events are to take place.

On Dec. 19, Santa will visit the school. First-grade students will take their turn as they perform in their holiday program. Also on Dec. 19, third-graders will sing at the Heritage Place.

On Dec. 20, students will meet for a holiday sing-a-long. This will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the school's gym.
