Letters - Illegal fireworks go unnoticed

Editor:

Once again it was that time of the year when the illegal rockets were showering the east side of Bountiful that rival those of the "official" fireworks at Mueller Park Junior High. It would seem obvious to anyone that these armaments go much higher and longer than the prescribed and legal requirement of 15 feet vertical or 10 feet horizontal! Is anyone, including the police, doing anything about it? My dog "Roy" and I are always terrified as things continue on into the night -- night after night! Is the law and its non-enforcement irrelevant? It would seem so. Are the roofs of homes in the area and their well being also irrelevant? Especially on the night of the 24th -- there were major pyrotechnics that kept going off and up on Center Street and about 8th East and on and on.

When there is no enforcement it gives "de facto" approval that these activities are OK. That the laws and safeguards are meaningless.

What will it take to get official attention? Various of our government officials must notice this from their homes on the east bench. So if this is just good fun -- with no attendant risks -- let's just take this law and all the warnings off the books.

Even from the downtown officers' lounge and those on patrol these things can be seen and heard.

Is it OK to be above the law if we so choose -- to have a little celebratory fun?
