LAYTON -- There may not be any ski resorts within the boundaries of Davis County, but that doesn't leave local hoteliers out in the cold. In fact, there is now a Davis County page on the Ski Utah website (www.skiutah.com).

"It was a combined effort of Davis County hotels and the CVB (Davis Convention & Visitors Bureau), all working together," says Barbara Riddle, Davis CVB executive director.

The county is now included among 17 lodging area entries. Those include individual ski resorts as well as such areas as Ogden, Park City and Salt Lake City.

The Davis County page notes that it's about 15 minutes to the Salt Lake City International Airport from the county's southern hotels.

"Join us in experiencing the many exciting changes which have taken place in posturing Davis County as an accessible and affordable destination," it says on the site. "Within minutes, you can enjoy skiing world-class downhill resorts."

The site notes that Davis Area hotels "are among the closest lodging to Powder Mountain and Snowbasin, which is where the Olympic downhill racing events were held."

Broadening the scope of what skiers can enjoy, the site goes on to say, "Ski or board during the day, then walk to all of the restaurants and shops at night. North Salt Lake is right in the middle of Utah's best resorts -- the mid point between the Cottonwood Canyons and the Northern Utah resorts.

"It is a short drive to Snowbird, Solitude, Alta and Brighton to the south and Powder Mountain, Snowbasin and Wolf Mountain to the north."

Five Davis County hotels are listed on the site, including Hampton Inn -- Woods Cross, Comfort Inn and Suites Salt Lake City North, Country Inn and Suites --Bountiful, Hampton Inn/Holiday Inn Express Layton and Best Western CottonTree Inn -- North Salt Lake.

The participating hotels proclaim themselves to be "Partners in Promoting Utah Powder."

Ski Utah calls itself "the official source for information on the best of Utah skiing and snowboarding." It provides a daily snow report, updates on The Greatest Snow on Earth, along with "winter vacation values."

The Davis CVB has promoted the fact that because of Layton's proximity to I-84, visitors can stay at Layton area hotels and still get to Ogden Valley resorts faster than by staying in downtown Ogden or northern Weber County hotels.

North Salt Lake/Woods Cross and Bountiful similarly are touted as convenient places to stay because of immediate I-15 access and less traffic congestion from hotel to Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts.

All Davis CVB costs, from staffing to promotions, are paid through transient room/restaurant and car rental taxes. No property taxes are used. It is an agency of the Davis County Commission.
