LAYTON -- With the arrest of three suspects, police believe they have everyone involved in a pipe bomb incident which began in Layton last week and moved into Roy.
Last Wednesday, about 40 explosives were found in a car wash on Main Street in Layton causing police to evacuate about a dozen businesses for nearly 12 hours.
Police arrested Curtis Beeman, 30, of Syracuse on Monday on suspicion of manufacturing and possessing the explosives.
On Monday evening, police in Roy evacuated businesses, shut down streets and searched for 20-30 pipe bombs Beeman told police he had dumped near a convenience store there.
Early on Tuesday, Layton police arrested Raymond Parr, 47, of West Point, on suspicion of manufacturing the bombs.
Police say that Parr leased a storage facility in Clearfield where he stored the bombs. They believe Beeman, and another man, Raymond Guzman, 31, Clearfield, who was arrested Tuesday evening, broke into the storage facility and took the explosives. Clearfield police said they found blasting caps at his home.
Roy police found only four of the pipe bombs they believe Beeman left, and now they fear some may have been picked up by children walking through a field. They are asking for the public's help in locating the others.
Layton Police Sgt. Mark Chatlin said police have yet to discover a motive for why Beeman was building the bombs because there's been nothing uncovered in the investigation which indicates his intention to detonate them.
Chatlin said police believe they have everyone involved in the incident.
He noted the cooperation between law enforcement agencies in Layton, Roy, Clearfield, and Davis and Weber counties in the investigation.
