After the better part of a decade as a chamber of commerce executive in Davis County, including six years at the helm of the Davis Chamber, Chris Dallin is moving on. On Oct. 30, he assumes new duties as director of public relations at McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden.

Dallin has had a profound impact on Davis County. And because he's still a young man in most people's minds, there is undoubtedly much more he will accomplish wherever he goes.

The Bear River City native came to the old Greater North Davis and then North Davis Chamber of Commerce as director well before the age of 30.

He switched gears from handling everything from bookkeeping to water pipe repair at Crystal Hot Springs Resort to dealing with residents in a very public way in his new position.

Perhaps what Dallin will be most remembered for is his vision and do-it-yourself attitude, which saw him at the forefront of whatever needed to be done.

Whether it was merging three chambers of commerce into one about six years ago (a feat many thought impossible to accomplish) to helping set up balloons at the recent Antelope Island Balloon Stampede, he was always totally involved.

His wit continually helped lighten up meetings that sometimes dealt with very weighty, serious issues. And his enthusiasm was enough to carry virtually anyone through to accomplishing whatever the goal was -- and even feeling good about it in the end.

Armed with those two qualities and a lot of innate intelligence, Dallin could take on seemingly impossible issues and make them happen.

For example, when some questioned why a chamber of commerce should delve into a cable television venture, he proved that such a channel could gain support of not only chamber members but county government entities and much of the public.

And by creating such characters as Ranger Read and Causeway, popularity for the channel has grown. More than that, thousands of kids have been introduced to the joy of reading by visits from what have now become two local celebrities.

Dallin has worked to build bridges between the county, to get the "Hatfields and the McCoys" to be willing to at least sit down and talk.

In Davis County, that has meant bringing together folks from North and South Davis on a regular basis, working toward not only a better, unified chamber of commerce, but also a better place for all to live, work and play.

A newcomer to the county, he had none of the prejudices that sometimes develop, usually for no good reason, among natives or longtime residents.

But now, Dallin said he has no plans to move from the county.

In addition, he wants to stay involved with various chamber committees and efforts, such as legislative affairs, which his boss, McKay-Dee CEO and Davis County resident Tim Pearson, regularly attends.

Undoubtedly, Dallin will stay as involved as he reasonably can.

And now being officially in public relations, he can continue doing what has been a major part of his job at the chamber.

All residents of Davis County owe him a substantial debt based on what he has accomplished in their behalf. Those who know him can only conclude that he'll achieve just as much -- or more --in his new position.
