Davis Arts Council features stars galore

LAYTON -- Reserved seating for "Foreigner" is already gone. You can only get tickets in general seating. That well-known pop group from the past is among many big names coming to the stage of the Kenley Amphitheater in Layton this summer. The Davis Arts Council kicked off its summer season Monday, June 5, with The Blind Boys of Alabama. Its free Sunday evening series started Sunday, June 4. The Blind Boys' performance brought together more than 60 years of performances. The band blends blues, pop, soul and gospel, earning the group three consecutive Grammy Awards from 2001-2003. Dionne Warwick will take the outdoor stage Friday, June 16. The five-time Grammy Award winner's music in-cludes "I'll Never Love This Way Again," "That's What Friends Are For," and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose."

"Seals and Seals" will grace the stage on Friday, June 23. Dan Seals, of England Dan and John Ford Coley, and Jim Seals, of Seals and Crofts, combine forces. They will perform classic hits from their former groups like "Summer Breeze," "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight," and "Everything that Glitters (Is Not Gold)."

Davis County's George Dyer will perform "A Night on Broadway" Monday, June 26. He made his professional debut with the New York City Opera in 1996 and has performed throughout the world. Appearances in Northern Utah have been accompanied by such groups as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Utah Opera.

"Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band" will perform Friday, July 7. This local band has gone on to national recognition and a place near the top of the charts. It is known for a broad sound including country, bluegrass, folk and pop. Musical influences include Johnny Cash, The Police, and AC/DC.

July 14 will feature Utah favorite Jim Brickman. The acclaimed singer, songwriter and pianist will be accompanied by the magic of Disney as her performs his interpretations of beloved Disney cinema songs plus original music for which he is best known.

"Outrageous" will take the stage Monday, July 17. This band that has been together since 1964 combines a "Chicago" and "Aretha Franklin" 1960s rock and roll sound. They were featured for many years at Lagoon.

Debby Boone will perform "A Tribute to Rosemary Clooney" on Friday, July 21. She is a multi-Grammy Award-winning performer, well known for the song, "You Light Up My Life." She paints a musical portrait of her legendary mother-in-law from a "family" perspective featuring music they loved and shared.

"The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band" performs Monday, July 31. The group has performed for more than four decades, including 21 albums on the Billboard charts. Hits have included "Long Hard Road," "Modern Day Romance" and "Fishin' in the Dark."

"Foreigner" appears Monday, August 7. They'll perform such hits as "Feels Like the Right Time," "Urgent," "Hot Blooded," and "I Want to Know What Love Is."

Other exciting performances will fill out the rest of August.
