KAYSVILLE -- An upcoming Oct. 14 run will allow runners to fight domestic violence with every step they take. The Davis County Domestic Violence Coalition's inaugural Domestic Violence Community 5K Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m. in Layton's Commons Park, south of city hall, 437 N. Wasatch Drive.

Pre-registration by Oct. 9 is $17, and may be completed on the Web at www.runner card.com or by calling Cacey Yates at 297-2671.

Registration forms may also be mailed to P.O. Box 772, Kaysville, 84037.

Day-of-race registration is $25 and can be completed after 8 a.m.

Proceeds go to Safe Harbor Domestic Violence & Crisis Center. The race is being held in conjunction with October being designated as Domestic Violence Month.

Awards will be given in several categories, including for children under the age of 18, adults, and specifically for those aged 50 and above. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and participant bag with a variety of goodies.

In addition, booths will be set up at the race site. Information will be offered on family violence, services and volunteering opportunities available throughout the county.

"It's a good way to support the local shelter and fight against domestic violence," emphasizes Kay Card. She is the director of Safe Harbor Crisis Center, which serves women and children victims of domestic violence.
