FARMINGTON -- A man who admitted to hitting and punching another man in the head in November was ordered to serve 360 days and jail and to go through the jail's substance abuse program. Darin D. Simonson pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, in connection with the beating that took place in Centerville on Nov. 7, 2005. On Tuesday, he asked 2nd District Court Judge Jon Memmott to give him credit for time served and place him on probation.
Simonson apologized for the assault, admitting to the judge he'd gotten out of control.
The judge though told Simonson he needed to confront his addiction to alcohol, and ordered the jail sentence so that Simonson could participate in the jail's substance abuse program.
Centerville police arrested Simonson after a woman reported seeing two men fighting near 650 North Main Street.
The victim was taken to the University of Utah Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for a brain hemorrhage.
