LAYTON -- It's time for summer fun, and Layton City has plenty of opportunities for just that with its county rec programs. For those who like to spend their lazy days of summer by the pool, Layton offers its Surf 'N Swim. But it's more than just surf and turf. The facility offers swim lessons as well. Morning classes are offered Monday through Thursday, beginning at 9 a.m. and running throughout the morning. The cost is $30 for parent and tot, $30 for preschool ages, and $35 for levels one through six. The next session begins July 11. Evening classes start at 6 p.m., and run Monday through Thursday. Parent and tot classes aren't offered in the evening.

The next session begins July 11.

In addition, Layton will be offering a Saturday class beginning July 11. Classes will be held at 10 a.m.

Layton City Park and Recreation is still accepting sign-ups for its Liberty Days 5K Fun Run/Walk on July 4.

The walk begins at 7:15 a.m. while the run starts at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $12 for pre-registration and $20 the day of the race.

The City also offers a Little League tennis program, with rally and match play for the same price. Leagues are offered for 10- to 11-year-olds and 12 years and up.

And finally, Layton City will be offering a hunter's safety class beginning Aug. 2 and running through Aug. 11. All classes begin at 6 p.m., with the shooting day Aug. 6 at the DWR office in Ogden. The cost is $10, and is held at the Layton City offices. For more information call 336-3900.
