BOUNTIFUL -- Robert Barton of Barton Scooters in Bountiful recently awarded Matt Rowley of Kaysville Junior High and Mary Rodriguez of North Davis Junior High motorized scooters, thanks to their significant improvements in reading scores during the 2004-205 school year. Barton is a proponent of reading because of struggles he had as a boy. "When I was young, I was a poor reader. I have worked very hard to improve my skills and recently obtained a master's degree. I want young people to know that they can do it, too," Barton said.

Kaysville Jr. High wins TRUTH contest

KAYSVILLE -- Kaysville Jr. High was one of 12 schools statewide to be awarded a TRUTH from Youth Anti-tobacco School Jamz Dance Party.

The party, which was held on May 27, included disc jockeys, pizza and ice cream for the whole school.

The students earned the party thanks to their efforts in creating anti-tobacco radio, TV, billboard and poster advertisements.

Nearly 800 students from the school submitted an advertisement. The top 12 schools with the highest percentages of entries per school population received a party.
