"She took mom swimming every day, and would swim laps and laps," Alice Callahan said.
Jan Callahan was an athletic, fun-loving young woman, her sister said. "She was great fun."
A native of Farmington, Jan graduated from Davis High School, where Alice said "she had more letterman's awards than anyone because she was a student trainer." Jan earned a bachelor's degree at Weber State University and a master's at Brigham Young University. At BYU, she served as an athletic trainer for the cheerleaders and was a member of the dive team. She had worked for the Utah Summer Olympics as a trainer and as a medic for Utah cheerleaders. Jan had three sisters and two brothers, in addition to nieces and nephews.
"We're doing as well as anyone could be expected to do," Alice Callahan said. "We're hoping to find her body and bring it home."
Because Jan had not yet started her job in Hawaii, she was not covered by any insurance. The family has set up an account to help defray expenses. Donations may be made at any branch of Zions Bank.
