Hill AFB Company Grade Officers' Council (CGOC) is happy to provide such an opportunity when they host their Fourth Annual Best-Ball Scramble Golf Tournament on May 2, which is being held to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties.
The event, which has a goal of raising $8,000 for the organization, will be held on Hill's own Hubbard Golf Course. Four-person teams must register on or before April 25 to participate.
"It'll be a day of madness and mayhem," said Carolyn Somer, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Costs for the tournament are $220 per team, which works out to $55 a person. "Not to mention a great partnership with Hill AFB."
The tournament will have two shotgun starts -- where all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes -- at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There will also be Farthest Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin competitions, designed respectively for distance and precision golfers.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams at the tournament, and door prizes will be awarded at random intervals throughout the day. A barbeque lunch will also be provided.
To get to any of this, however, off-base participants will need to check in at the visitor's center located just to the right of the South Gate. Guests will need to step inside, present their credentials, and explain that they're here for the tournament to be provided with a pass that will allow them through the gate.
For anyone looking to access Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties, more information can be found at their Web site, weber
davishabitat.org. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, volunteer organization which partners with low-income families to help them build or renovate their own homes.
Registration forms for the tournament are available on the local Habitat for Humanity's Web site under the "What's New" link. Those interested should print off and fill out the form, then mail it to Lt. Kirk Andrews on or before the April 25 deadline (the address is listed on the form). Checks should be written out to Hill Air Force Base CGOC.
For questions about registration or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Lt. Kirk Andrews at 801-777-0199 or Lt. Nancy Dias at 801-586-3200.
