OGDEN -- The number one and number three soccer teams in 5-A squared off Tuesday afternoon. It just so happens that both those schools are also in the same region, which means that this game was very big. Unfor-tunately for the third-ranked Viewmont Vikings, the number one soccer team in the state Weber was too much to handle in a 3-1 Weber win. The game was marred with bad weather once again. With the grass slick and footing unsure out on the field, the Warriors methodically took the two-goal victory to improve their Region 1 record to 2-0 and 6-0 overall.

Viewmont fell to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Vikings right now are, in essence, in fourth place in the region; if you go strictly by record. They are behind Davis (3-0), Weber (2-0) and Layton (2-1-1).

Weber scored two goals in the first half to pretty much decide the outcome of the game. Viewmont played the Warriors even in the second half, but the two-goal deficit they dug themselves into in the first half was too tough to overcome. Andrew Morris, Jayden Garfield and Jeff Schweppe scored goals for Weber.

Viewmont got their lone goal of the game in the second half from Shay Miller. Miller consistently scores for the Vikings, but they also needed a big game from the Deseret News prep athlete of the week and leading goal scorer in the state, Mike Christensen. Christensen was shut out and shut down for most of the game and that crippled Viewmont's attack somewhat.

With the loss, the Vikings will probably fall out of the top-five rankings. Davis im-proved their overall record to 5-0-1 Tuesday and should move into the rankings come next week.

Viewmont does catch a break today when they host last place Northridge at 3:30 at Centerville Junior High. The Knights are 1-4 overall and 0-3 in league thus far.
