Editor:
I would like to comment on the upcoming proposed merger of the Kaysville City Library with the Davis County System. I live in Clearfield and have had the privilege of using both the Kaysville Library as well as several branches of the county system. In fact, I am one of 1,600 non-Kaysville residents who use that Kaysville system. My personal experience with Kaysville has been very positive and accommodating where they get me any book I ask for within a two-week time frame even if it comes from another site (at no cost to me).
The service is very friendly and courteous and the staff is willing to go the extra mile to assist the patrons and the librarians seem to know the patrons and make them feel welcome. It's a nice place to go in an age where most bureaucratic organizations lack the personal touch and are cold and impersonal.
I have been reading with interest comments made in the reported news, and many people feel this is the best course for Kaysville City to take; I can only say these people are obviously not library patrons. I say this because it only makes sense that at the Kaysville site you have about 7,000 library card holders, and if you come to the Davis system you will be competing with a much larger population to get books and materials.
It recently took me two months to get books I wanted from the Davis system, and they were not even on the best sellers list.
So Kaysville, I hope you get a say in the fate of your city system and carefully consider your options. Otherwise welcome to my world where you will be waiting a lot longer than you are now for books.
You think you are going to get more but you are going to wait for it longer, too.
