CENTERVILLE -- Plans for constructing a park bordering Farmington and Centerville are are underway. It will house a memorial to honor local military personnel who died in action. The Centerville and Farmington Rotary Club approached the Centerville city council a month ago hoping to build a memorial to honor military personnel from the Farmington and Centerville area. The Rotary will pay for the memorial through funds raised with the help of several grants and donations from individuals in the community.

Families and friends can purchase a brick engraved with the name of a veteran on it that will be used to create a walkway, helping raise the needed funds.

"The monument will be located next to a flagpole, but it is still undecided where the (bricks) will be placed in the park," says Steve Thacker, Centerville city manager.

"We would like to put them in a place set off to the side with a grove of trees surrounding the pole and memorial."

The park will be built just east of Park Hills Drive in northern Centerville near Main. The park will cover 27 acres and construction will start later this year.
