LAYTON -- Last Friday evening, the Davis Education Foundation hosted its annual education gala at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, with all 600 tickets sold out two weeks before the gala. The Davis Education Foundation hosted "An Evening in Paris Gala" to raise funds for schools in Davis County. Through the dinner and auction, approximately $70,000 was raised. "We had some wonderful auction items," said Davis Education Foundation director, Sheryl Allen. Trips to Disneyland, ski passes, a Bon Jovi signed jersey, a playhouse and a Scion vehicle were a few of the auction items people were able to bid on. There were also tickets to a celtic women's concert for the next night that Allen said people enjoyed. "All the money raised goes toward grants for teachers," said Allen.
The $70,000 will be distributed throughout Davis County schools, with each school getting a specific amount as set by a committee. Schools turn in requests beforehand of what they need in the classroom, which always differs by school.
"Common requests we get are for field trips, calculators, science equipment and art supplies," said Allen.
"An Evening in Paris Gala" featured a dinner and music from Jon Schmidt.
