This year marks the third anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The Rocky Mountain District Exchange Club is hosting two memorial fields, to be on display from Thursday, Sept. 9 through Tuesday, Sept. 14.
The September 11 Field, is composed of 2,998 flags -- one for each person killed in the terrorist attacks. The Soldier Field will have 1,248 flags symbolizing each soldier who has died in the war on terrorism.
Ceremonies for both fields will begin Saturday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 am, in front of the Sandy City Hall, 10000 S. Centennial Parkway.
Speakers include Governor Walker, Matt Hufford, a September 11 survivor, and other community officials. The names of the 9/11 victims will be read during the posting of the flags.
A military style ceremony will honor the fallen soldiers.
Volunteers are needed for the event. For more information call Patricia (Pat) Smurthwaite at 801-264-9444.
