BOUNTIFUL -- A new location and more vendors have proven popular with South Davis residents, who are turning out in increasing numbers each Thursday evening at the Bountiful Farmers Market.
Organizer May Carpenter reported that the shadier location, on 100 South between Main Street and 100 East, is appreciated by both customers and vendors.
"With the weather being so hot," noted Carpenter, "being under those big trees has made a world of difference."
The market, sponsored by the Main Street Merchants Association, is open for business from 4 p.m. to dark Thursdays. Customers can select from a wide assortment of produce items, bakery goods, preserves and syrup, fresh fruit, honey, dairy goods, floral items, prepared foods and craft items like jewelry, paintings, metal and mosaics.
"We've got about 12 vendors on the food side," said Carpenter, "and, I'd say, 10 in the craft area. Some of these people do farmers markets in Park City, Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City and at Thanksgiving Point, so they've traveled a ways to get here."
Among the vendors on hand each week are Volkers Bakery from Park City, Ricos Mexican Foods, Salt Lake Sourdough Bread Company, Lehman's Jams, Consider the Lilies, Drake Family Farms (goat cheeses and yogurt), Storey's Honey, Chad Midgley of West Bountiful (greens, herbs and more), S & R Fruits (cherries, apples, peaches and apricots), Jacobson and Robison (vegetables), Weeks Farms (berries, syrup and jams), Parkers Produce and many other individuals offering locally grown fruits and vegetables.
"Area residents should be aware," reported Carpenter, "that right now items like tomatoes, corn and other crops are coming into season. So we'll continue to add more farmers."
For more information on the Farmers Market, or how to become one of the vendors call Carpenter, 295-9879.
"We invite everyone to come out," said Carpenter, "and enjoy the good food and fun shopping."
