1911--2007

BOUNTIFUL - Vermilla Beck Pope passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah. Vermilla, known by most as "Millie" was born to Vermilla Smoot and Edward Robert Beck in Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 1, 1911. She was the eldest of five children: Mary, Edward, Jack and Margaret, all of whom preceded her in death. Millie married Harold L. Pope in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Aug. 21, 1931. Before marrying Harold, she was a telephone switchboard operator in Salt Lake City. At the age of 55, Millie graduated from Brigham Young University School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and worked at LDS Hospital and at Birdies Nursing Home before retiring.

Together, Millie and Harold raised four children: Lorraine (Don) Riley of Bountiful, Utah; Jeannine (R.J.) Parrish of Kaysville, Utah; Ronald (Sydna Kay Holbrook) of Waynesboro, Penn.; and Claudia Ann of Bountiful, Utah. She had 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband Harold, and one grandson (Michael Pope Riley).

Claudia Ann is a special needs child. Millie, along with Harold, provided loving care to her while also devoting much of their life after Claudia's birth to strengthening and growing the programs to assist the developmentally disabled in Bountiful, Davis County and the State of Utah. She has always been a caring and giving person, raising her family and fulfilling many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main where friends and family called Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and Saturday morning 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Primary Children's Medical Center.
