You can't please everybody. Some readers appreciate the serious columns leaning to political topics. Other readers couldn't tell a Republican from a pomegranate and tell me they enjoy the light-hearted columns such as those exposing the foibles of teenagers. But one thing most of us agree upon is an interest in food. I've often said my favorite thing to make for dinner is reservations and most nights you'll see me at a restaurant. I'm often asked if I get bored eating out. My answer is that one can't get bored if one eats at different places or selects different menu items.
We all have our favorite places, but here's a list of my low-brow and high-brow faves. How can you not enjoy:
The onion rings at Crown Burger or the blue-cheese bacon burgers at Dylan's...
The clam chowder at Gastronomy Restaurants (Market Street Grill, Market Street Broiler, etc.) or the balsamic vinaigrette grilled chicken sandwich at Trolley Square's Dessert Edge Brewery...
The lobster pizza or the grilled salmon at Red Lobster or the chilled salad and black tie mousse cake at Olive Garden...
The cheese enchiladas at El Matador and the seafood enchiladas at Cafe Alicia in Bountiful...
The freshly prepared cheesecakes or the Shrimp Gabini linguini at Gateway's Dodo Restaurant...
The butternut squash pasta and the tasty pizzas at Salt Lake's Trio restaurants or the fresh asparagus and Italian entrees at Salt Lake's Luganos...
The vinegar and oil salad at the revered Cinegrill, and the lush grounds and delicate entrees at Cottonwood's renowned Tuscany...
The spiced salmon at the Outback Steakhouse and the memorable beef at Fleming's Steakhouse...
The seafood specials at Ogden's Union Grill...
The coconut cream pie at Marie Callender's...
The chicken caesar baguette sandwiches at Fazoli's...
The Oriental chicken salad at Applebee's or the chicken caesar salad at Iggy's Sports Grill...
The Charcoal Room salad (with blue cheese crumbles and candied walnuts) at the Sky Bar in Salt Lake or the blackened chicken salad at Squatter's...
The authentic Italian fare at Michaelangelos in Sugarhouse or the Mandarin entrees at P.F. Chang. (Sorry, I'm the only person in Davis County who doesn't rhapsodize the Mandarin in Bountiful.)
I'm not finicky, give me an Arctic Circle malt or a cup of Seattle's Best...serve me the Mediterranean shrimp scampi at Olive Garden or the grilled trout filet at Red Lobster...
To paraphrase the often-heard slogan, "So many restaurants, so little time."
