Tuesday, students at Jennie P. Stewart Elementary School, 1155 North Main, Centerville, will sing "Happy Birthday" to Jennie and will eat birthday cake with their lunches at school, served by the principal and assistant principal.
They'll be doing it over and over again from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
Stewart was a stellar teacher in her time and the school mascot is actually a star. Stewart was noted for being a loving and caring teacher, while maintaining high expectations of performance from them. She is also known for serving others unselfishly, and for her generosity. Students are encouraged to adopt those philosophies in their daily actions.
Jennie P. Stewart was one of only a handful of female teachers to have a school named for her.
Photos and a fun, easy-to-read history about Jennie P. Stewart are available on the school's Web site: stewart.davis.k12.ut.us/JPSLegacy.htm.
