BOUNTIFUL -- Ron Gardner, a long-time activist in Bountiful affairs, was honored by the Bountiful Community Service Council and the city for his years of volunteer work. The award was made at the City Council meeting Tuesday evening.
A plaque and a letter of appreciation from Mayor Joe Johnson cited Gardner's many hours of volunteer work in a variety of causes.
Gardner is immediate past president of the BCSC, which helps coordinate volunteer efforts. He helped get Bountiful designated as a Community of Promise and worked with the city's Neighborhood Watch program.
He and his wife, Wendy, also served as co-directors of the Multi-Stake Public Affairs Committee for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he was a liaison between the church and the city. They leave soon to preside over the church's Cordoba Argentina Mission.
Canyon Anderson, president of BCSC, presented the awards. In response, Gardner said it was easy for him to give back to the city where he and Wendy were privileged to live for the past 35 years and where they raised their family.
