Bowing to some very "heated" complaints made during last year's events, organizers of the Bountiful Farmers Market have received permission to move the weekly gathering back under the tall trees and cool shade at 100 S. and 100 East, next to Stoker's School.
According to Farmers Market backer Mary Carpenter, area consumers will be able to sample fresh produce, baked goods, preserves, locally grown herbs and tasty snacks. The market will be open June 17 and every Thursday thereafter, 4 p.m. to dark, until mid-October.
"We've been able to assemble a large and diverse group of participants so far," Carpenter added. "We think area residents will not only enjoy the shade, but what we have to offer."
Among the vendors already committed are Drake Family Farms, George's Herbs, Storey's Honey, Volker's Bakery, Kettle Korn, Lehman's Kitchen, Chad Midgley Produce, Baja Burrito and Great Harvest Bread. A number of other area farmers are expected to sign on before opening night.
Sponsored by the Bountiful Downtown Merchants Association, the market will open for business the same day as Bountiful's annual Sidewalk Days shopping promotion. Sidewalk Days will continue the next two days, June 18 and 19.
"We welcome all South Davis residents to drop by," said Carpenter, "and enjoy the evening with their friends and neighbors."
