BOUNTIFUL -- Students were chosen from Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross High Schools to receive $1,000 scholarships from Lakeview Hospital for their interest in the healthcare system. Bountiful High School seniors Trent Irwin, Devin Christiansen, and Christina Butterfield joined Viewmont High School senior Derek Wesche, as well as Woods Cross seniors William Burton, Danielle Foster and Brandon Martindale in receiving the $1,000 scholarships at a lunch at Lakeview Hospital last week. For their applications, students had to include a copy of his or her most recent transcript, a letter from the high school counselor as proof that the student is on-target for graduation and two letters of reference from non-family members. Students also had to include an essay based on an understanding of the current healthcare needs in the United States, as well as a personal statement of their own aspirations in the health field.

Irwin would like to be a medical doctor, Christiansen would like to be an oral surgeon, Butterfield hopes to be a physical therapist, Wesche wants to become a dentist, Burton wants to become an orthopedic surgeon, Foster wants to become a physician's assistant, specializing in dermatology, and Martindale wants to be a physician.

Lakeview Hospital en-couraged students to get some experience at a hospital before they actually begin college, or during the first couple of years. The hospital also made a presentation on what is available at Lakeview to patients.
