WOODS CROSS -- The Woods Cross Wildcats didn't win a state championship in softball last year; the Tooele Buffaloes did. That showed this past Tuesday as the Buffs soundly defeated the Wildcats 11-0 at Woods Cross in six innings.

Tooele is coming off a 21-3-1 campaign in 2004 which also saw them defeat Bear River for the 3-A state title. Apparently, the Buffs aren't ready to slow down any time soon.

The Wildcats finished a modest 10-12 last season and lost to the same Tooele team early on last year 8-2. Either the Wildcats are in for a long season this year, or the Buffaloes are that much better compared to last year.

It was tough going for Woods Cross in this one. They managed only one hit and that base knock came from Casey Plowman.

Four Wildcats reached base in this one. The Plowman hit, a couple of Tooele errors and a walk issued to Chelsea Walton were the lone basepad threats for Woods Cross.

The Wildcats travel to Judge Memorial this afternoon to battle the Bulldogs in their third preseason game of the year.
