LAYTON -- Nathaniel Taylor Elkins, 11, drowned in Hobbs Pond last week about 45 minutes after he was reported missing.
The boy was found in the south side of the pond, owned by Kays Creek Irrigation Co, Thursday afternoon. Elkins mother, Pat, reported him missing, and told police the boy was with his dog.
Police spotted the dog near the pond, and then saw something in the water. The boy had been dead several hours when he was pulled from the pond.
Layton Police say an autopsy showed nothing suspicious in the death. The boy was wearing a T-shirt and jeans when he was found. A pair of shoes were found near the water.
Pat Elkins has said that her son would not have gone near the pond, and she believes he may have been lured there or that a cougar backed him into the pond.
The pond is surrounded by a fence, but the boy's mother said it is not high enough and that there are several breaks in it
This summer, police have cited eight people for trespassing.
