Editor:
Thank you for covering PETA's protest of the rodeo in Farmington ("PETA to buck for attention," Feb. 3). Please allow me to expand on Sean Diener's concerns.
PETA wants the visitors from Russia to know that rodeos are condemned by every major animal protection organization and have been outlawed in several U.S. cities, including Fort Wayne, Ind. and St. Petersburg, Fla. because of the abuse participates inflict on animals. Calves and bulls are roped, electrically shocked, and wrestled so roughly that they routinely suffer severe injuries, such as fractured spines, paralysis, and internal bleeding.
Rodeos condone hurting animals for our entertainment and we think that's shameful. PETA believes that, rather than promoting dominance through violence, we should embrace and promote tolerance and kindness to all living beings, because we all have the same capacity for pain and fear.
