One of the new elements of the summer schedule is teen classes, designed for ages 12 and up and covering a wide variety of media including charcoal, oil painting and watercolor. There's even a class that teaches stained glass by way of mosaics, where students will take home a finished piece at the end of the session.
Another new element designed to take advantage of the season is the open forum classes. Available for both oil and watercolor artists, the forums are designed to give artists a chance to work in the company of their fellow painters without the restriction of formal instruction. Drop-in prices are also available for these forums.
"We've had people who want to work with other artists, but don't necessarily have the space," said Buckingham. A different class, called Studio Time, offers instruction along with the work environment. "The open forums give them that opportunity."
Local artist Lester Lee will even lend a hand, offering a one-day watercolor workshop in the middle of the summer. Anyone interested is recommended to register early, because seating fills up fast.
"It's a hot thing," said Buckingham. "Everyone's excited about it."
