High Notes - Students 'soar into reading'

SYRACUSE -- Students are going to 'Soar into Reading' all week long at Syracuse Elementary School. During this week, there will be a model airplane fly, a read-a-thon, a presentation by guest readers from Hill Air Force Base and a day where students can dress up as a book character. On Thursday, there will be a family reading night. On Friday, reading totals will be tallied and medals will be presented to students who read the longest amount of time.



Science and rockets at Muir

BOUNTIFUL -- Retired science teacher, Fred Olson, will be speaking to sixth-grade students at Muir Elementary today at 2:30 p.m. He will be discussing science and rockets and will then assist the students in making their own rockets. On March 30, Olsen will return and launch those rockets with the students.



Employment preparation

KAYSVILLE -- Ninth-grade students at Fairfield Jr. High will participate in mock job interviews during their English classes today. This activity is the culmination of the students' employment preparation seminar.



'Hot and Classy' fundraiser

BOUNTIFUL -- The choral department at Millcreek Jr. High will be hosting a fundraising concert and dinner, titled "hot and classy" on Wednesday. There will be two shows, the first beginning at 5 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. "Hot" lasagna from Robintino's will be served, and "classy" music from classic literature will be featured.



'Masters, Musicals, Melodies'

SYRACUSE -- Students from Syracuse Jr. High will be presenting their "Masters, Musicals and Melodies" concert on Wednesday at 6 p.m.



Shakespearean Festival

LAYTON -- Students from Whitesides Elementary will be presenting their fifth annual Shakespearean Festival. Two performances will be held on both Wednesday and Thursday. One will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the other show will be at 6:30 p.m. Students will be performing "As You Like It."



'Titanic' presented at LHS

LAYTON -- A musical of the ill-fated ship of dreams, the Titanic, will be presented on Thursday at 7 p.m. continuing until March 17. A matinee will be performed at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. There are 122 students in the performance, with another 30 working backstage controlling the lighting and sound. There will also be a Titanic museum on display in the theatre lobby before, during and after all performances. For more information, call the school box office at 402-4888.
