It was disappointing to learn of Mark Jacobs' financial difficulties. It is even more disappointing that Sheryl Allen withheld this information from the public until just a week prior to the primary election. As reported in the Tribune, Ms. Allen was quoted as knowing about these issues since last march. Magically the information anonymously appeared on the desk of the reporter, with all allegations documented so the reporter didn't have to do any dirt digging on her own. Isn't it interesting that this information was reported just in time to do the most political damage, just before the primary election? Adding insult to injury I believe the full page ad in the Clipper June 20 by her supporters was yet another scurrilous attack. How many nails does it take to nail the coffin shut? Is winning at any cost really that important?
If Allen had done the right thing it would have saved citizens from spending money in each campaign, money that is now wasted. She would have saved campaign volunteers numerous hours and she would have saved the Republican party from being ripped apart in Bountiful.
As a delegate, I believe that unfortunately, this is once again another campaign in which honor has escaped the Allen campaign. I believe her campaign's actions cast a cloud over her 2000 race with Don Guymon, where there were problems with balloting at that convention.
At the recent 2006 convention she again violated rules that had specifically been written because of the previous problems.
Allen continues to tell people how "honest" and "ethical" she is, and how "misinformed" her opponent is. In my opinion, if Allen were so ethical and honest she would not need to tell the public. In my opinion, honesty doesn't require a person to tell others of their virtue and integrity, it speaks for itself. Unfortunately, it appears to me Sheryl Allen's actions speak louder than her words.
