"We hope that people will apply regardless of the media they're in," said BDAC Program Coordinator Rich Tuttle. "We don't know what the exhibits will be until September, when the exhibitions committee meets and we see how the art shakes out."
One exhibit, however, will be known in advance. After the success of this year's "Through the Eyes of the Travelling Artist" exhibit this January, BDAC has also added a themed exhibit to 2009's schedule.
Titled "Face to Face," the open-for-entries exhibit will, according to the BDAC description, be "an exploration of portraits of the human face" open to all two- and three-dimensional media. Both juried and an invitational, the exhibit will include three to five works each from about 25 artists.
"The themed exhibits tend to focus on areas where artists might have accumulated some work," said Tuttle. Interested artists may submit through the Call for Entries format. "Portraiture is such an exciting and difficult area for artists that we wanted to feature some of the best in the state."
Interested artists should submit 10 high resolution pictures (300 dpi) on a CD that may also include detail views. All submitted work must have been completed within the past two years and show work intended for exhibit.
Artist organizations hoping for a 2009 exhibit can submit up to 20 high resolution pictures (300 dpi) on a CD showing no more than 2 pieces per artist and showing a representative sample of the body of work to be exhibited.
For more information, please call BDAC at 292-0367. A printable copy of the application is available online at BDAC's newly remodeled Web site, www.bdac.org.
Though only the applications and a few other links are currently available, the art center is working as quickly as possible to get the artist-designed site fully up and functional.
