BOUNTIFUL -- The View-mont Lady Vikings have had a tough year against Region 1's elite women's basketball teams and have feasted on the bottom three teams in the league. This past Thursday saw the Lady Vikings almost get over the hump and beat one of the big three in Region 1. But Maegan Bingham and the Lady Falcons had other ideas as she made a 12-footer from the baseline as time expired to win the game 46-44 over Viewmont.

The game was close throughout. After the first quarter, both teams had struggled offensively to an 8-8 stalemate.

The second quarter saw some offense from clubs as the Falcons carried a 20-19 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Lady Vikings were led in the first half by Airial Salvo and Erin Dalley. Salvo was steady as always as she scored nine points to lead all scorers. Dalley, a sophomore backup point guard, sparked Viewmont off the bench with six points.

Clearfield was led in the first half by Haley Hall and Somre Anderson. Hall is the Lady Falcons' best player and it definitely showed in the second half. But Hall did contribute six points in the first half while Anderson was tough down low for Clearfield and tallied five points herself.

Hall ended up scoring a game-high 19 points with all 13 of her second-half points coming in the third quarter alone. Salvo totaled 18 for the game, and much like Hall, got eight of those in the third quarter before laying an egg in the final eight minutes.

The third quarter saw the Lady Falcons take a commanding 39-32 lead into the final eight minutes of the game. Viewmont remained close and got to 39-37 off one Salvo free throw with 4:30 remaining.

The Lady Falcons were settling for jump shots in the final quarter but finally calmed down with five quick points from Anderson and Washburn to put them up 44-37 with four minutes to go.

Viewmont's Cheltsey Mc-Cloy then hit her lone bucket of the night, and there couldn't have been a bigger shot to make. With 3:05 left and Viewmont still losing 44-37, the senior guard hit a three-pointer to close to 44-40. It was McCloy's only make of the night and her only points for the game.

Jones then got points off a great post-up move to draw the Lady Vikings to within 44-42 with 2:20 remaining on the game clock. Viewmont had a chance to tie the game with 1:10 left, but Dalley turned the ball over to Clearfield on a bad in-bounds pass under the View-mont basket, which killed the potential game-tying possession.

Clearfield never capitalized on anything in the final four minutes and it nearly cost them the game. Viewmont got the ball back and immediately went to Jones down low. The senior forward was fouled while making her shot for a possible three-point play.

Jones had tied the game at 44 with 28 seconds left but missed the free throw to give Viewmont only its second lead of the game.

Clearfield raced down the court and then held the ball at half-court for quite some time and the final shot.

Hall held the ball and then made her move with about 10 seconds remaining. She was stopped cold in her tracks on the left side and then re-circled to the right-hand side.

As Hall rounded out to the top, she saw an opening to the right-hand side of the key and drove the lane. The Lady Vikings all collapsed on Hall and she was able to kick it out to Bingham who found herself wide open from about 12 feet out and four seconds remaining.

The mid-range jumper is a lost art in basketball these days and Bingham made the shot look easy. The ball swished through the basket followed about one second later by the sound of the final buzzer.
