WEST BOUNTIFUL -- Members of the West Bountiful City Council approved two separate resolutions during the meeting of Tuesday, June 6, one highlighting recent achievements by the Davis School District. The resolution acknowledged district's number one ranking in percentage of graduates in the nation. The district was rated tops among the U.S.' 100 largest school districts by the Manhattan Institute. The district's graduation rate of 89 percent was five points higher than the second-place district, located in Texas. The Davis School District is also the only district in Utah to have as many as four of its high schools named by "Newsweek" magazine in the nation's top 1,000 high schools based on students taking advanced placement tests, international baccalaureate, concurrent enrollment and distance education opportunities. Also approved by unanimous vote was amendment to an interlocal agreement with the South Davis Metro Fire Agency. The change will extend the term of the agreement from five to 25 years.



Staff appointments confirmed

WEST BOUNTIFUL -- Back tracking to take care of some unfinished business, members of the West Bountiful City Council voted June 6 to confirm Mayor James Behunin's re-appointment of Beverly Haslam as city recorder.

Also approved was the appointment of new treasurer Mindi Tullis.

Both women were also given the oath of office that evening.

Later in the meeting, Michael Eggett, currently seeking a master's degree in government administration at the University of Utah, was selected to serve as an intern with West Bountiful City this summer.



Man to get treatment for sex abuse

FARMINGTON -- A 2nd District Court judge stayed two prison terms for a man guilty of child sex abuse so that he could get the help he needs.

After listening to the victim's father, 2nd District Judge Rodney S. Page stayed two, one-to-15-year prison sentences for Craig Scott Taylor, 37, of Layton, and ordered that Taylor be sent to the Northern Utah Community Correctional Center in Ogden to receive treatment in its sex offender treatment program.

Taylor pleaded guilty in April to two counts of of second-degree felony sexual abuse of a child, for inappropriately touching a 7-year-old girl in North Salt Lake.
