BOUNTIFUL -- The Mark and Susan Cheney family will treat area residents to the 13th Annual Christmas Celebration, Sunday, Nov. 28, 6:45 p.m. at the Bountiful 13/53 Ward LDS Chapel, 1356 N. 650 East, Bountiful. The public is invited to the free event.

Nearly 500 luminarias will light the sidewalks leading to the chapel to prepare patrons for the treat that awaits inside.

This year's program is under the direction of daughter, Mikelle Cheney Mueller and her husband, David.

Special guest performer at this year's presentation is Celena Nelson Shafer, a native of Centerville, who is recognized as one of the premiere artists of her generation. New York Magazine called her a rising vocal star possessing "a glittering soprano that dances accurately and expressively over her notes."

Shafer appeared in the first Cheney Christmas Celebration program 13 years ago. In 2002, she made her debut at the Lincoln Center.

She maintains an exhausting travel and performance schedule, but Utah fans will also see her in the Utah Opera Festival's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," in March 2005.

Other featured performers in the celebration include:

-The Cheney's 11-member handbell choir

-The Mueller String Quartet comprised of Max, Warren, David and Nathan Mueller

-An interfaith choir composed from various churches in the area

-Poetry and scripture readings from Carolee Eriksson and Mark Cheney

-Congregational singing lead by Lane Cheney and accompanied by Susan Cheney on organ.
