SANDY -- The Viewmont girls' soccer team ran into a buzsaw Thursday in the form of the Alta Hawks. Alta sent the Vikings packing with a 6-1 win in the second round of the state 5A tournament.

"Alta is a very, very good soccer team and they showed it today," said Viewmont coach Eric Landon. "They are as good as we have all year and they are peaking at the right time of the year."

Viewmont earned the right to play in the second round with its overtime 2-1 win against American Fork.

Alta jumped out to a 2-0 first half win and coasted in the second half with four more scores.

Viewmont's lone goal came from Marissa May.

The Vikings finished 12-6 overall and 11-3 in Region 1 play for first year coach Landon.

"This was a good season," landon said. It will give us a great place to start from for the future. We want to continue to build this program as a positive high school experience for the girls.

"We're on the right path."
