DAVIS COUNTY -- Weather and other small delays in construction of the Davis Conference Center expansion prompted a request for change orders, including pushing back the completion date, at the Davis County Commission meeting held Jan. 8."I can't point to all the little things that have caused delays," said Barry Burton, from the Davis County Community and Economic Development Office. "For example, we found out there is a utility corridor behind the hall that required us to redesign the storm sewer system. Some of our materials have been held up in customs and the weather has also been a factor."

The completion date was moved from March 7 to March 31 to allow more time for some of these problems to be addressed.

"We are anxious to start hosting events," said Commissioner Louenda Downs. "But we had to adjust the contract completion date to give them more time to finish. One concern was to determine if there was adequate electrical capacity. When we held the Sheena Easton concert, we found her show used more wattage than we expected."

Burton said those large concerts need around 200 amps and the ballroom has only 60 amps. "So we bumped up to 200 amps service into the exhibit hall." Another request was a redesign to raise a portion of the roof. All of the changes will increase the cost estimated to just more than $11,000 Burton said.

A memorandum with the Sheriff's Office to complete the 800 MHz re-banding project to keep radios working properly and updating the contract with the USU Extension Program were other items considered at the commission meeting.

"USU has been using space in the County Courthouse but they are pretty cramped," said Downs. "We just updated the agreement of how much space to allot for them."

Downs also said the commission will meet Jan. 10 with Weber County to hear from UTA on a proposed tax increase.
