DAVIS COUNTY -- In the art world, the magic can only happen when individual people get involved. The Davis Arts and Humanities Council (DAC) is currently seeking volunteers for events and programs in the group's 2008 season. Local residents of all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to take part in everything from constructing sets to working on the DAC newsletter to taking tickets at events. "We're looking for someone who is passionate about arts and wants to spend the time and energy needed to bring those arts to the community," said Kent Hansen, marketing and development director for the council. "The job entails a lot or a little, depending on much each person wants to give." Events volunteers are needed for everything from planning and organizing events such as the council's Sunday concerts or Wednesday night movies to serving as the lighting assistants and ticket takers required to actually run the events.

Especially for the council's summer musical, volunteer help is needed on everything from sets and costumes to security and ticket-taking. Volunteers are also needed onstage to act and provide stage assistance.

Several of the DAC's committee's would also welcome the volunteer help.

The advertising committee covers everything from photography and video to customer service, maintaining both the arts council newsletter and Web site. This committee handles certain promotional duties for all arts council special events.

The school education committee works with local schools to maintain and spread such programs as Arts in Residence and Blues in the Schools. Volunteers with this group might also coach creative writing or work with youth theater programs such as the one that produced last October's haunted house.

None of these events or programs can happen, however, without financial support, another area in which volunteers are invaluable. Local residents are needed to lend a hand with fund-raising events such as Friends of the Arts, the Christmas Card program, and others.

For more information or to become a volunteer, please call 546-8575 or go online to davisarts.org.
